Another day, another Biden with tax problems.
Recent revelations indicate that Ashley Biden, President Joe Biden’s daughter, has not paid her income taxes for a period of six years. According to a tax lien filed against Ms. Biden on Dec. 1 by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, she did not pay her taxes from a period beginning in January 2015 while her father was still vice president, extending through to Jan. 1, 2021, just days before he was inaugurated as president. The tax lien is for $5,000.
The amount of taxes is far less than the amount owed by her brother Hunter Biden. Ashley Biden’s income as a social worker, community activist, designer of “socially and ethically conscious apparel,” and campaign worker for her father is undoubtedly far less impressive than Hunter’s millions. By way of further explanation, the period of time in question is also when, as Biden has previously disclosed, she was in and out of rehab and halfway houses to treat her apparent drug and sex addiction.
Five thousand dollars may not sound like a lot of money. And of course, many Americans haven’t paid their income taxes. Nearly one in four Americans admit to owing back taxes. So that makes it no big deal, right? Leftists on X are pounding their keyboards to make it known that Ashley Biden is a private citizen, just like Hunter, and that this is just another pathetic part of the GOP smear campaign against Joe Biden as we head into another presidential election year.
Perhaps. Everything seems political now, even taxes. Recall how the Biden and Obama administrations used the IRS to go after their political enemies?
Still, it does make one wonder: Why didn’t the adult children of the vice president pay their taxes? Shouldn’t a man constantly harping about rich Americans who don’t pay their “fair share” make sure his own family pays their taxes?
Most Americans probably know Hunter Biden is currently under federal indictment by the Department of Justice for failure to pay $1.4 million in taxes on more than $7 million in income. He faces three felony and six misdemeanor tax offenses for failing to pay his taxes from 2016 to 2019 while spending millions of dollars obtained from questionable business dealings with foreign entities and spending it on escort services, drugs, and a lavish lifestyle. Hunter also faced potential felonies for failure to pay taxes on an additional $1 million in income from the Ukrainian company Burisma between 2014-2015, but these charges could not be filed because U.S. Attorney David Weiss did not bring them before the statute of limitations expired.
But it isn’t just the Biden kids engaging in this behavior. Tax problems seem to be the Biden way. According to investigative reporter Paul Sperry, Joe Biden’s brother James and his wife Sara Jones Biden have had a long history of sketchy financial dealings. Sara Biden took a job with one of Joe Biden’s Senate donors who later accused her in court documents of fraud and unjust enrichment. She and Jim have been accused of reneging on debts and failing to pay their taxes. Between 1995 and 2015, James Biden has had at least five liens filed against him for various unpaid taxes. In 2013, the Internal Revenue Service placed a lien on James and Sara for unpaid taxes in the amount of $589,000. They have also faced state and local liens for unpaid taxes.
Brother Frank Biden has had at least three liens for unpaid income taxes. In 2011, he claimed he was paying off a $32,500 lien in Kentucky which stemmed from his struggle with alcohol addiction. Joe Biden’s sister Valerie and her husband John Owens have faced at least five tax liens, including one for $229,749 in 1990.
Given all of this, it hardly seems fair to suggest bringing up Ashley’s troubles is just part of a “smear campaign” against Joe Biden. It looks more like pointing out a pattern and practice of privilege and arrogance on the part of the Biden family. Multiple members of the Biden family earn their living producing nothing, building nothing, and selling nothing but their relationship with and influence over Joe Biden. They use drugs, hire prostitutes, avoid their taxes, and get sweetheart deals with prosecutors. Nothing ever happens to them.
Meanwhile, according to the United States Sentencing Commission, two-thirds of tax fraud offenders are sentenced to imprisonment, and the average sentence is 15 months in a federal penitentiary. It does not move me that the Bidens were addicts or were in mourning for their brother who had just died of cancer. Regardless of your political affiliation, you know that you or your loved one would not receive this kind of leniency.
It’s not surprising that the man who constantly berates Americans to pay “their fair share” has a family full of entitled tax cheats. Hypocrisy is the Democrat way. Joe Biden wanted to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to go after you and nail you for that undeclared Venmo transaction, but his own family always seems to skirt the rules. Perhaps Ashley will find another Biden donor to pay her back taxes, as Hunter did.
As I expected, this small but embarrassing tax lien story was swept away from the headlines before Christmas and nothing is going to happen to Ashley.
After all, there is nothing as certain as death and unpaid Biden taxes.
