Debunking the ‘Plunging Border Crossings’ Narrative

As Joe Biden makes his expedited, unplanned exit from the political stage to make room for his vice president and one-time “border czar” Kamala Harris, his administration and its watercarriers in the corporate media are working feverishly to reframe some of his more embarrassing moments. Chief among them is the intentional demolition of our border security, and the bad consequences that have followed.

The White House now proclaims that illegal border crossings are down, and USA Today obediently boosted the idea with an article on how empty beds in migrant detention facilities near the border are visual proof of the regime’s messaging. U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s recent data do show a recent decline in border encounters, but to accept this at face value as conclusive evidence of reduced illegal immigration is to ignore a number of other factors that reveal the true situation.

Border crossings routinely drop this time of year because the heat in the Sonoran Desert straddling the U.S.-Mexico border is at its most intense. The journey from Central America to Texas is dangerous even under the best of conditions. Adding scorching desert temperatures to the mix always causes many people to defer passage until the fall.

The Biden administration’s unpopularity has been fueled, in part, by the daily images of chaos at the border, with large groups of migrants either walking across it or overwhelming border agents as they pass. Team Biden’s cynical solution to this has been to eliminate opportunities for such images, continuing to admit hordes of unvetted foreign nationals by other means, and still working to appease their anti-borders activist base.

The CBP One phone app has been the primary method for implementing their plan. Allowing migrants to schedule passage at ports of entry has largely eliminated the lawless images as well as the need for detention centers, which would explain all the empty beds that have so impressed the media. Since CBP One was rolled out in January 2023 through April of this year, more than 591,000 migrants were able to schedule appointments to enter at U.S. ports of entry. So border crossings in this case are not necessarily down, they’ve just been re-classified as CBP One crossings.

Other programs have been deployed to avoid messy border scenes will continuing to allow illegal migrants to flow into the country. The Department of Homeland Security started the Cuban-Haitian-Nicaragua-Venezuela (CHNV) parole program to allow otherwise inadmissible aliens and their families from these countries to apply for immigration parole and enter the U.S. Even if they lack required entry documents, applicants could qualify if they have a sponsor in America willing to support them financially during their parole. The bottom line is that aliens are being flown directly into U.S. airports, another tactic that reduces illegal border crossings while still allowing aliens to enter.

It is worth noting that the CHNV parole program was paused earlier this month. A report obtained by the Federation for American Immigration Reform revealed a program rife with fraud. Apparently, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has been fast-tracking applications without verifying information provided by sponsors or parolees. The report also showed the use of Social Security numbers that were either fake or belonging to dead people, among other suspicious inconsistencies.

While the administration appears to have had a miraculous deathbed conversion on security at the southern border, an inconvenient fact ignored by our supposed watchdog media is that encounters at our northern border this April increased 1,240 percent compared to the same month in 2021. Many of those wanting to enter the U.S. illegally haven’t necessarily given up trying, they’ve just entered through a different open door.

A media interested in the truth would also temper the Biden White House data with the sobering facts that there have been more than 10.5 million border encounters nationwide during this administration. Since fiscal year 2021, 362 aliens on the terrorist watch list have been caught crossing the Southwest border illegally. If this administration is serious about taking steps to control the border now, why did they wait until the final months of their term to do anything about it?

The reality is that there has been little to no reduction in illegal immigration lately. The Biden White House has simply gotten rid of the unpleasant optics that have plagued it and the Democratic Party and found more devious ways to allow the influx of illegal aliens to continue unabated. It’s the same shell game Biden’s handlers have been playing on the American people for almost four years with our border security. Until we demand the borders get the serious treatment they deserve, we will get more of the same.
