Well, this is an eye opener. As if ALL of East Europe have no grievances
with Russia over the centuries; it ALL started with the founding of NATO, so it is the USA’s fault. Incredible. The former Warsaw Pact Nations, and those Former Soviet Socialist Republics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine) should just all together, as one entity, surrender and seek the best terms that Moscow will offer. Forget the long history of abuses suffered at the hands of the Soviets (Ukraine obviously hasn’t; I don’t think anyone is holding a gun to their heads, FORCING them to fight Russian soldiers, as they said they needed more ammo, NOT a ride West). Germany should just as well throw in the towel too, as their economy is tanking without Russian resources, according to Peter Zeihan. In the flight West, I guess France (the ONLY OTHER nuclear power on the European Continent) better gather together Her other Latin League buddies and build a 21st century Maginot Line to stop the westward tsunami of refugees trying to avoid Russian occupation of their countries (they never cared much to cooperate with us, so I doubt they’ll enthusiastically cooperate with Russian commanders of fallen Europeans either). This is why MAGA Deplorables say abandon NATO NOW, before WE are standing alone in the middle of an indifferent Continent, facing hostility alp around, like Xenophon’s Greeks in the middle of a suddenly hostile Persia, facing a Long March out of hostile territory. I would rather we face this Two-Headed Eagle (Germany-Russia) on the high seas (OUR domain of mastery), than upon hostile territory. Turkey is made of sterner stuff, and they’ll probably take the Balkans under their wing and plug the Bessarabian Gap Themselves, along with their newfound Balkan allies. Whatever the outcome, it is FAST becoming THEIR problem, as Americans are DONE with giving security guarantees to the whole effing World, deferring our own continuing development of the North American Continent for decades now (NAWAPA was designed in the early sixties. It went into the grave with JFK, but is STILL a worthwhile project to the whole Continent), in order to fight other people’s wars, capitalize other people’s industries, have other people sell their goods in our markets. WE are done with all of that. The neocons will receive their pink slips as soon as we pry their hands off the ballot box and stop their interference will the political will of actual Americans out here, in Flyover Country.

It isn’t surprising that a healthy majority of Poles support sending weapons to Ukraine. Western Ukrain-Poland-Lithuania-Latvia-Estonia were all part of one political entity for many years and still share some cultural/historical affections. Many in Western Ukraine would rather be part of Poland too. I could see a desire for Poland to annex the West and then Russia annex the East meaning no Ukraine at all at some point.

At the same time it makes sense that Poles don’t want to fight and die in a war against Russia because of their memory of the Soviet era.

It would also help if Russia liberalized in terms of economics and military. They can keep their authoritarianism inside their borders if only they were less threatening to their neighbors. US leaders then would have no excuse to push NATO eastward and enact sanctions.

I would like to salute Michal Krupa’s intellectual courage of denouncing the near-total annexation of the Warsaw polity by the Washington war party. As a fellow Australian historian trained initially in Romania, I can fully appreciate his incisive candour and respect it accordingly.

From the first partition of Poland in 1772 at the hands of Frederick II of Prussia, Maria Theresa of Austria and Catherine the Great of Russia ( all of them German royals, to be sure ), to the last one between Hitler and Stalin, the Polish nation experienced a tremendous loss of sovereignty. Moreover, the Polish state ceased to exist for 146 years. Prior to the partitions, Poland was a sizeable and quite powerful medieval kingdom which tried, however unsuccessfully, to extend its borders and influence eastwards and southwards. This disappearance of the Polish kingdom was unique in medieval European history and proved to be very traumatic for most Poles.

Worse still, the loss of Polish statehood left them with a nasty inferiority complex, which most prefer to hide. Unfortunately, this inferiority complex is real and dangerous at the same time. Its existence explains why the Polish elites want to punish all parties involved in Poland’s historical tragedies, from the Germans to the Russians. The part played by Polish medieval elites in the downfall of their state gets conveniently overlooked …

This pathology was known to American foreign policy elites, who were able to speculate it after 2003 to their advantage. In an effort to hang on to Western Europe at the end of the Cold War, the Americans found in Warsaw an eager-to-please political elite, ready to be used against both the US’ “ungrateful” allies and former enemies, i.e. the Russians. A. Severin, former Romanian foreign minister in the 1990’s explains that:

“This is how the war started by the USA in Ukraine is directed not only against Russia, but also against the EU (German Europe) . It also attempts to form, within the EU or across the borders of the EU, in association with actors from its eastern neighborhood, dissident groups, fundamentally German-sceptic, all of which have as a driving force Poland, with its aspiration to the status of the first European power. Such attempts, of American inspiration and vigorous Polish support, are the Bucharest Format 9 (nine states from the east of the EU, strategic partners of the USA), the Three Seas Initiative (Baltic, Black and Adriatic) and, now, the “Polish-Romanian-Ukrainian confederal strategic triangle”.

Alas, Polish elites are deluding themselves if they believe that Poland can, with American help, become leaders in the EU and of the ad-hoc groupings of Eastern European countries created for the purpose of Polish aggrandizement. (for details see my post about Poland’s plans for the region at

To Florian: I agree that any European Bloc depending on American support of their territorial ambitions are in for disappointment. Our isolationism is very real, and there is really NOTHING that we need from the European Continent, as Peter Zeihan makes abundantly clear in all of his writings and YouTubes. The only thing we ever needed from Europe is to be left alone, as per our Declaration of Independence from the European “madness” for Empires, that has given them the reputation for being the bloodiest Continent in the whole World. Those in America with imperial designs on Europe are a tiny minority, but with much power and ability to manipulate the tools of government, from ballet box fraud to bribery, blackmail, and assassination. We have been in a covert Civil War since Eisenhower’s warning and JFK’s assassination. We are in the End Game now, with the ordinary citizens finally close to gaining the upper hand. The American participation in European shenanigans is fast drawing to a close. The Europeans will likely continue their bloody chess game of border adjustments, without benefit of an outsider scapegoat.

To Larry Bowen : I fully respect the American people’s desire to avoid involvement into European wars, however impossible this proved to be to date.

To be sure, Europe has been during the XXth century the scene of the bloodiest wars in human history, also dragging into the conflict countless thousands of soldiers from Australia, Canada or the United States. A century before that and for 70 years after 1945, Europe was however a remarkably peaceful continent. That is, until now …

The US or Australia for that matter are two very large and very prosperous countries in the world, the envvy of many around the world. I fully agree with you that unlike the UK – an island-nation which lacks most natural and energy resources – the US is mostly self-sufficient, needing very little from the outside world in order to survive and continue to prosper. ( so is Eurasia, for that matter ).

There is something though the Americans can learn from the European experience. I am referring to the fact that the relentless drive for hegemony is self-destructive and is to be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, most in the US foreign policy establishment are bent on spending the country’s blood and treasure to make sure the America stays on top as global hegemon. This will bring utter misery to your nation and will ruin the US economy and society for decades to come, as it already happened to Europe last century.

So exhausting to see the name “Chamberlain” thrown around with no contextual relevance. Chamberlain believed that Hitler can act as a buffer against eastward expansion of soviet union and its domination of eastern europe. He thought should there be a war and germans lose soviets will dominate eastern/central Europe (which is exactly what happened) and should the germans win, europe will be destroyed as a democratic entity. There was also risk of communism in southern and western Europe (Greece, Spain). He was not an appeaser, he did not want Soviet/ communist expansion. So he gambled on peace.

Michal Krupa writes for highly Russophilic portals such as kresy.pl and konserwatyzm.pl.
To illustrate what kind of political environment it is, I will give an example of Mr. Krupa’s “colleagues” from the konserwatyzm.pl portal. Once, one of them (Adam Wielomski) stated that if the Russians invaded Poland, he would propose his colleague (Konrad Rękas), who also writes for this portal, as the head of the collaborationist government. He himself, Wielomski, would also like to be part of such a government. The scale of depravity is astronomical. That’s the kind of company it is.

A few years ago, Konrad Rękas, the star of Russian propaganda, praised Russia for the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and criticized Poland, who was in 1939 invaded by Germans and Soviets.
Today, Rękas supports poor Russia, who supposedly was attacked by the West, and demands peace in Ukraine.
