A survey conducted by Britain’s National Centre for Social Research reveals that supporters of Britain’s Reform party hold more hardline right-wing positions on issues of race and immigration compared to Republican voters in the United States.
British Reform voters are more inclined than Trump supporters to oppose allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country without authorization. And when it comes to diversity, only 10 percent of Reform voters agree that Britain’s diverse mix of races, ethnicities, and religions enhances society, while nearly half of Trump supporters share this belief about their own country.
The most significant disparity among the anglophone countries relates to demographics. An overwhelming 85 percent of Reform voters viewed the decline in the proportion of white individuals within the population as “somewhat” or “very” bad for society. In contrast, this sentiment was shared by just 43 percent of Donald Trump supporters.
The findings are revealing. On both sides of the political spectrum, UK voters tend to be more anti-immigrant than those on either the right or left in the United States. The survey found that the British left—those who voted Labour, Liberal Democrats, and Green in 2024—were more skeptical of multiculturalism than Americans who supported Kamala Harris. When asked whether being overly welcoming to immigration risked undermining national identity, only 12 percent of left-wing Americans agreed, compared with 34 percent of British left-wing voters.
It is notable that, regardless of political affiliation, fewer than half of British respondents believe the mantra that “diversity is a strength,” compared with 64 percent of Americans. This belief is in stark opposition to the neoliberal doctrine that has influenced British society over the past 30 years. Between 1945 and 1995, Britain experienced a net migration of fewer than 1 million people; however, in the subsequent 30 years, this number has surged to nearly 8 million. Immigration has caused rapid demographic change in the country. White British people made up 98 percent of the population in 1968; by 2063, they are expected to be a minority.
The speed of this development is alarming. Since 2010, net migration has added 3.7 million people to the United Kingdom’s population, a figure that exceeds the entire population of Connecticut. Focusing solely on arrivals, approximately 3.6 percent of Britain’s total population has arrived between 2021 and 2023. To put this into context, the Huguenots, frequently referred to as “Britain’s first refugees,” arrived between the 16th and 17th centuries and constituted approximately just 1 percent of the population. It took around 50 years to accomplish that demographic change.
The progressive vision of an inclusive, harmonious, and thriving multicultural society has been repeatedly exposed as a fraud. In Britain during the final week of October, a Sudanese asylum seeker was convicted of the murder of a hotel employee, whom he stabbed 23 times. Three days later, a Libyan asylum seeker was jailed for threatening the staff at a migrant hotel because he disliked the food. On Oct. 29, a Somali asylum seeker was sentenced to life imprisonment for the fatal stabbing of a man after his asylum claim was denied. The day after, an Egyptian asylum seeker pleaded guilty to the rape and sexual assault of a woman outside a nightclub.
The West is not entering some Francis Fukuyama-inspired post-historical period in which cultural practices, religion, and ethnicity will suddenly merge in some utopian global community undergirded by universal principles. Instead, a previously tolerant and compassionate population has been held hostage by an ideology that has devastated countless communities. British citizens were labeled racist for raising questions about the ethnic background of the grooming gang perpetrators, who consisted primarily of men of Pakistani descent bent on targeting white working-class girls in various towns and cities across England.
For years, authorities refused to intervene for fear of inflaming tensions among the Muslim community. Meanwhile, the so-called benefits of diversity have included cousin marriage, inter- and intra-religious conflict, politicians calling for Islamic blasphemy laws, and cries for jihad on British streets. A rich global cuisine and cheap foreign workers don’t make this trade-off a good bargain.
In Britain, multiculturalism has led to the establishment of Sharia courts. Elderly people are dying in care homes because foreign nurses are unable to speak English, and white British children are a minority in one out of four English schools. Despite these failures, the British state has primarily focused on implementing strict hate-speech legislation, which limits public discourse about these matters, all while importing thousands of foreign people with values antithetical to Western civilization. The barbarians are no longer at the gates—they are inside, because we have thrown them open. In its collective arrogance, the British state decided to sow the wind, and now it must reap the whirlwind.
The fact that even the British left appears to be coming around to the idea that diversity may not be the panacea managerial elites sold them marks a potential watershed moment in the culture wars. Let’s see how long it lasts.
