The moral burden in our system is supposed be shared by elected officials voting to declare war. It is a logical link at least making at least all voters responsible for going to war and therefore shouldering the burdens on some level. But as we know the US regime doesn’t involve citizens in the decision any more. Political bureaucrats make these decisions. But that is good in one way. The wars that the US regime has pursued in the 21st century are immoral and against the interests of the American people. Therefore we shouldn’t by and large be held responsible for the wars or help shoulder the moral burden.- This is actually the way wars were seen in the past, as waged by kings, lords, states; not by the people. Regular people were innocents and therefore protected at least theoretically from the ravages of war. We need to get back to that. Then the people maybe can hold the state accountable for their immorality.

As a foreigner, it is really amazing how little Americans believe and follow the “American Story” that I learned as a child. US was the land of opportunity, of the enlightened, the rational, the independent journalist, the optimist, the hard worker and the rule of law! What american story do I tell my 1st generation American children now?

You keep telling them the ones you heard. They’re not dead. Some are working very hard to kill those values and ideas. But, they’re still there – for now. We have to do our parts to keep them alive and in our American blood stream. Civic education isn’t limited to classroom or bedside stories either. It continues through daily meaningful interaction with like-minded people – and others.
