I’ve been a subscriber to Chronicles for quite some time. Yes, there is a place for philosophical digressions and highbrow reviews of books. But we are in 2025 and entering a new era of politics. People do not want just ideas. They want action.
The Trump administration is doing great things, but he and DOGE are operating from the highest echelons. While the left and the managerial state may be down, they are not out. They will be falling back to their base camps on the campuses and Beltway offices, regrouping and plotting for a comeback in 2028, or sooner.
Here in Los Angeles, we have had several major left-wing actions in which protestors have blocked traffic on major freeways. These actions are not peaceful protests or even acts of civil disobedience at government offices. The highway blockades are a major threat to, among other things, vital life-saving emergency services. At the same time, the left-wing city government has given stand-down orders to law enforcement. People are demoralized by the open left-wing defiance of the law, these incidents being on top of the growing anarcho-tyranny, with government tolerance for the looting of businesses and of homeless encampments, as well as the fiasco with the recent fires.
People want to see conservatives out in the streets and in front of City Hall with picket signs and banners. They want to see conservatives in courtrooms bringing lawsuits against organizations conducting illegal highway protests. They want to see conservatives conducting counter-protests at the various NGOs that fund the highway blockades.
Conservatives need activist organizations up front with “boots on the ground.” It means conducting lawfare in the courts. It means taking control of the boardrooms. It means putting demonstrators on the campuses and in the streets. It means exploiting the emerging worlds within information technology.
This means organizing fronts for attorneys, activists, students, and workers in all fields.
Now, at this point, someone may think, “But that’s not what we do as conservatives!” And that has been the problem with conservatism for decades. There is too much theorizing and not enough action. The time for Carnival Cruises and book signings is over. Conservatives have won the battle of ideas; now they need to turn those ideas into real-world action.
