Why Don’t Democrats Celebrate America?

Time and again, the Democratic Party’s elites show through their actions, policies, and statements that they are united in opposition to traditional American life, values, and culture.

That’s nothing new: it’s been this way for a generation. But it’s worsening. Today, it’s more brazen and openly revolutionary. We all saw a clear example of this at the recent State of the Union Address.

“It does not make sense to me,” President Trump said about it during remarks to the Republican Members Conference at Doral, Florida, on March 9. Trump noted that he is perplexed by the Democrats’ behavior. He cannot understand why they refused to stand for the U.S. Army helicopter pilot, the mother whose young daughter was beaten and murdered by a thug, or a 100-year-old veteran who was a Navy fighter pilot and shot down four Soviet-piloted MiGs during the Korean War. To be so unmoved as to decline to celebrate these great Americans honored in that venue, and to feel no pressure from the party’s base to do so, is remarkable.

The Democrats sat there, stone-faced. They behaved the same way during Trump’s 2025 address. This reveals a lot about the current state and tone of the modern Democratic Party. They do not like America; in fact, they and their voters may hate it. The party has shifted far to the left, to the point where great Democrats like Senators Zell Miller and Henry “Scoop” Jackson, or President John F. Kennedy, wouldn’t even recognize it.

What kind of political party would facilitate an invasion of over 20 million people into America, people about whom the authorities knew next to nothing? Presently, they refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security. It is shuttered because they care more about amnesty for illegal aliens than they do about the security of U.S. citizens.

Partisan reasons alone cannot explain this. Were it just party loyalty driving them, some Democrats would inevitably vote against their party leadership’s wishes to satisfy constituents or donors. In fact, Democrats almost never break ranks. There is an iron discipline within that party, no matter how unpopular the issue is with patriotic voters. The three leftist Supreme Court Justices always vote the same way. It is the same in the Senate and in the House of Representatives. What accounts for their discipline when, in contrast, Republicans nearly always have defections, which Republican House and Senate leadership choose to accept?

To understand the modern Democratic Party, it is helpful to understand the thought and behavior of Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks—particularly their approach to power. Viewing the Democrats through that lens is key to understanding their behavior, policies, and objectives today. Quite simply, they want the death of traditional America and its replacement by a totalizing, progressive, even neo-Bolshevik America.

The Bolsheviks sought to destroy the old order and to remake everything—every aspect of their society, including its culture, educational system, military, religion, economy, and politics. Each organic part of their world was destroyed and rebuilt in the image the Bolsheviks preferred. For Lenin, a revolutionary class in what he would call a “reactionary” state—like Russia in 1917 or America today—works for the defeat of its own government.

Lenin advanced the idea of “revolutionary defeatism,” often popularized as “the worse, the better.” The worse conditions were for the working class and peasantry; the more painful the experience of World War I for the Russian people, the better were the conditions for revolution.  In those years, the Bolsheviks worked to defeat their country. They worked against a Russian victory because its defeat would provide the best opportunity for their revolution. The same motivation was present among many of the leaders of the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War.

The Democratic elite are pursuing “the worse, the better.” They work to make things worse in America, not better. Democrats do not stand at the State of the Union because they are working for America’s defeat and the replacement of the American people. They are following the dictates of a revolutionary defeatism. The more horrible things are in the U.S.—the more they can portray America as terrible and unjust—the better. It is good from their point of view for Americans to be divided, violent, and fractious. They want the economy to be abysmal and to import more immigrants who make the native population uncomfortable. They want more people to transition and destroy themselves with drugs. They want a demoralized and weaker United States, a more fragmented and weaker Western civilization. The closer they are to these outcomes, the better it is for their neo-Bolshevik designs. They want to destroy America and remake it into a totalitarian country where they and their kind are in charge. Toward that end, they are making great progress.

Seen through that lens, you can understand why the Democrats have the strategy and policies they do. They are not designed to help Americans but to hurt them. In essence, if you are not invested in America and the American people, if you do not care about them, then radical change is welcome. No radical change is too much, as you do not give a fig about the country, its people, history, and traditions.

The Democrats operate under the nom de guerre of “progressivism,” but its playbook is inspired by the Bolsheviks. Their philosophy is shared by some Republicans like John Cornyn and Lisa Murkowski, who should be described not as Republicans in Name Only (RINOs) but as fellow travelers.

Their approach to power is defined by tactical flexibility. Support for the Democratic Muslim Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, is acceptable because his election and policies will further weaken and divide Americans. The same is true of boys in girls’ sports or the trans issue more generally. It will be true, again, of the next insane issue that the Democrats are cooking up in their political laboratory. Having learned from the Bolsheviks, the point is to always manufacture a crisis so that the American people, and their culture and society, will always be under attack and on the defensive, and so remain unable to resist the assault effectively.

It is time for Americans to see the Democratic Party for what it is. It is the single most anti-American force in the country, backed by donors, non-governmental organizations, allies like George Soros or Neville Roy Singham, and the Chinese Communist Party. At a time when Republican motivation seems unequal to that of the Democrats, the American people should view the Democratic elite as a destructive force. That would allow Americans to recognize the choice is between Americans and a party inspired by neo-Bolshevik strategies designed to destroy American identity, our civil and political culture, and erase the history of this great country and of Western civilization.
