Last week I blogged about a Tennessee high-school classroom banning students saying, “Bless you!” Now the repression has spread to college.

According to CBS Atlanta:

“BRUNSWICK, Ga.  – One professor at the College of Coastal Georgia has banned students from saying ‘bless you’ in his class.

Campus Reform reports that Dr. Leon Gardner, assistant professor of chemistry at the College of Coastal Georgia, pointed out his six rules on behavior on his Introductory Physics class syllabus.

“According to the #6 under the ‘Behavioral Deduction’ section of the syllabus, students’ grades will be lowered for: ‘Saying “bless you.” We are taught that it is polite to say “bless you” when someone sneezes. However, if you say this while I am talking, it is NOT polite, it is very rude!’”

Is he just trying to keep order in his class? Is he being heavy-handed? It’s hard to tell these days.

But the front page of College of Coastal Georgia’s website boasts a section for a “Diversity Kick-Off Event. Where we read:

“The Team Vicious step show, choreographed and led by LeeAnet Noble, roared into the international spotlight when American designer Rick Owens featured them as his models to introduce his Spring 2014 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Flaunt Magazine described Noble as ‘a pistol without a trigger,’ citing her unique and out-of-the-box style as the inspiration for designer Owens to shake it up on the high-profile Paris runways. The magazine described the show as surging with adrenaline as real women wore real sizes and made a statement with hypnotic music, stepping, jumping and clapping in unison. Video of a Team Vicious performance is available on Noble’s website, www.leeanet.com.”

I checked it out. Let’s just say the Bolshoi Ballet can worry less than Putin about U.S. hijinks.

There’s also this:

“Jonny Zavant’s Vegas-style mind reading and comedy show is the opening act. He’ll introduce Mr. Nibbles III, the psychic cockroach, as well as demonstrate memory techniques and mental gymnastics. Zavant uses a combination of applied psychology and showmanship to intrigue his audience. He trained with magician James ‘The Amazing’ Randi and developed scientific studies to test paranormal claims. Learn more about Zavant on his website, www.jonnyzavant.com.”

Because this is a state school, this stuff is funded not only by state taxpayers, but by federal taxpayers.

According to the page of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion:

“What makes CCGA exceptional makes us different!”

But they’re exceptional at nothing, in which they are no different from almost every other P.C. school in the land.

“The College of Coastal Georgia represents many nationalities and cultures that enhance experiences and our celebration of diversity. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion helps students gain cultural competencies needed for today’s graduates through diversity initiatives.”

Apparently, whispering “Bless you” isn’t diverse and inclusive enough.

More:

“The Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s mission is to: offer programs that foster the understanding of and respect for cultural differences and to ensure that campus community supports cultural and academic initiatives through multicultural education, advocacy, and intercultural understanding.  Through these initiatives, an inclusive campus environment will affirm a just community for students, faculty, and staff – assisting the campus community members to achieve their greatest potential.”

“Cultural differences” apparently does not include the natural use of “Bless you” to another student.

This is another reason why conservatives should stop wasting time trying to “reform” schools, including K-12, colleges and universities. Instead, alternatives should be set up, beginning with online college courses. At least as long as it’s allowed.
