What Will It Take to Squash the Pending Insurrection?

In his most recent column, Douglas Murray tells us that “Democrats are driving young men to kill ‘Nazis’ who aren’t Nazis.” Murray then goes on to show how one of our two national parties is inciting violence to bring down the Trump administration.

The problem is even worse than Murray describes. The European press, particularly the German “antifascist” media, slavishly follows the Democratic Party playbook to smear opponents as “Nazis.” The echoing effect of this incendiary language is designed to lend international respectability to the murderous tactics that Democratic politicians continue to pursue.

The question that must be addressed is how to respond to this insurrectionary behavior. The solution that Murray and a host of Fox News celebrities offer is to win “at the ballot box.”

Allow me to suggest an intractable problem connected to this well-meaning solution. There is no guarantee that even if the Republicans, counter to the current generic congressional poll averages at RealClear Politics, win in the midterms and hold both houses of Congress, that the Democrats and their media handmaidens will accept the results.

Why should we believe, contrary to all evidence, that they will? Democratic politicians have met Trump’s attempt to remove even the proven criminals among the illegals (whom Biden welcomed into the country) with incendiary rhetoric and violence? Why would I think yet another GOP victory will make these insurrectionaries mellower? More likely, the defeated but certainly not vanquished Democrats would raise the political temperature to hold on to their radicalized core constituency and redouble their efforts to make the country ungovernable during Trump’s second term.

Even more ominously, the Democrats could win back at least one house of Congress next year and then proceed to wreak havoc on Trump’s presidency. This would not be a simple exchange of parliamentary roles by two parties equally committed to a constitutional process. It would be more like the Stalinists seizing power in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, and elsewhere in Eastern Europe at the end of the World War II.

Both the Nazis and Communists behaved like our Democratic Party in using riots and violence to create single-party states. Once they were allowed to impose their dictatorships, they then claimed to be protecting their subjects from violence (of course, the majority of the violence was initiated by their partisans for precisely this purpose). Historically, Communist dictatorships in seizing power behaved much the way America’s progressive politicians and media act. They always pretended to be liberating countries from “fascist” and “Hitlerian” threats while ascending to power, and then crushing their opposition once they arrived there.

It is hard to believe that if the Democrats do retake national political power, they’ll engage in meaningful bipartisanship, even of the kind that was still possible under the Clinton administration 30 years ago. They are now the party of socialists, antiwhite racists, and wokesters (best represented by the Squad in Congress and the imminent Zohran Mamdani takeover in New York City). Moderates in both parties who talk about “dialoguing” with the other side may have become delusional. But it is equally questionable that “the ballot box” will moderate the left’s passion for total, unqualified control, particularly if it has its opposition on the run.

Trump should do what is necessary to go after the insurrectionists for inciting violence and for targeting him personally in life-threatening ways. I’d also love to see that sanctimonious perjurer James Comey thrown into jail for all his misdeeds as the former director of the FBI, along with his corrupt Secret Service collaborators. What goes around should come around; and the Democrats and the even more incendiary mass media should be made to pay for abetting riots and violence.

Unfortunately, most of the political weapons remain with the enemy. Their voting bloc is probably as large as the MAGA electorate; they control the mass media, most (quite broadly understood) institutions of learning; and the culture industry. How exactly does one smash this power block? Next to our woke revolutionary class, the communist threat that I heard about as a child seems to have been small potatoes. There is nothing conspiratorial or “crypto” about the present American left. It is all over our public life.

This is a battle our side must win, whatever the odds, because the future of Western society and perhaps human civilization depends on the outcome. Only this country can win that struggle because of our position as a political, economic, and miliary superpower, and because we are less contaminated by the insurrectionary, “antifascist” left than Western Europe or the rest of the Anglosphere.

The European left loathes both the Trump administration and the MAGA movement because it stands in the way of total ideological control for themselves and their American allies. The leading German news magazine Der Spiegel, a paragon of political correctness, ridicules on this week’s cover those “godly warriors (Gotteskrieger)” around Trump who are promoting traditional biblical morality. Having mostly eradicated that heritage in their own country, the magazine’s editors would like to do same across the Atlantic. It is MAGA resistance more than any other force that stands in the way of realizing that ghastly vision.
